Policy brief
A policy brief is a short document that argues for one specific action by one decision-maker, combining a clear ask with evidence and local impact, usually compressed to a single page for legislative meetings.
A policy brief is not a research paper. It exists to persuade one person to do one thing: support a bill, fund a program, or take a position. The strongest briefs anchor the argument in the reader's own district with numbers a staffer can verify.
In practice, the one-page policy brief and the leave-behind are the same document. The format matters because offices sort paper by length before they read a word of it.
