Legislative assistant
What does legislative assistant mean?
A legislative assistant is a staffer who covers a set of policy issues for a legislator and is usually the person advocates meet with.
Why it matters for advocates
One legislative assistant, or LA, might cover health care, education, and veterans all at once. They take the meetings, read the materials, and brief the member.
Treat the LA as the decision path, not a consolation prize. A staffer who understands your issue and has a clear page to point to is how most asks reach the member.
